Angle Community Council

image of Angle Community Council

Angle is a small, predominantly rural community at the extreme south west of the county, most of which is in the national park. Geographically it is bordered on three sides by the sea, has two fine beaches, a wide sheltered bay suitable for small boats and a varied landscape which is host to diverse flora and fauna including migratory birds. The community has lived in harmony with the two local industrial installations close to the north-eastern boundary because of the skilled employment opportunities and other significant community contributions they have provided.

Angle community is centred on the architecturally unique village with outlying farmsteads and small settlements. Its rich heritage is based largely on agriculture and the sea although Angle figured prominently in military activity from Napoleonic times and through both world wars. Today the proud community is largely indigenous and current livelihoods mainly rely upon farming, tourism and the nearby local industries based around the waterway. For many years it has been the home of an important lifeboat with an illustrious history, bravely crewed by villagers.

The community supports interesting and varied community groups, an active church and a locally sucessful football club. It benefits from two pubs with restaurants, a visiting Post Office, Library and a local bus service.
